Modest Mouse Supports Sea Shepherd

Modest Mouse - King Rat

From Sea Shepherd's website:

Modest Mouse released the highly anticipated music video for “King Rat” directed by Heath Ledger on August 4, 2009. “King Rat” is a track off their new No One’s First, And You’re Next album. Proceeds from the download of the music video on iTunes the first month of its release will be donated to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to support their ocean conservation campaigns.

The video, produced by THE MASSES, focuses on the illegal commercial whale hunts taking place off the coast of Australia each year, and has been released with the support and advocacy of Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse.

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is honored to be connected with this important work and hopes that it brings attention to the illegal slaughter of whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

Says Captain Paul Watson, “Modest Mouse is bringing an important issue to their fans via this music video and raising awareness about illegal whaling in a provocative and effective manner.”

Izu Animals

Took a short trip to the Izu Pensula early this week and saw a few critters.

KaToPe Microman

I'm super stoked on this recent gift from KaToPe. He found this old Microman Gum* wrapper all crumpled up in the bottom of an old cardboard box, framed it, and drew a Microman Super Jet on the back.

*Microman Gum came out in the 70's when Microman was all the rage. Some of the rarest Microman figures were given away as prizes to kids who sent in gum wrappers. These days it's nearly impossible to find the figures for a decent price, not to mention the gum wrappers.

Coming soon! Sea No Evil is a benefit art show featuring a long list of notable artists. Friends Bwana Spoons and Tim Biskup are both donating work, Shepard Fairey is DJ-ing, and Sea Shepherd's founder, Captain Paul Watson will be featured speaker. I'm very excited to hear Sea Shepherd is getting so much support these days. Check out the link below for more information on this event.

New Tokoichi Seiju!

Coming this weekend to Thrash Out's anniversary event! Along with a couple other cool exclusives, Gargamel is releasing their own version of the new Cometdebris collaboration Tokoichi Seiju figure. The figure has an awesome paint job by Gargamel, paying homage to a classic kaiju character that some of you may know.

Matsuri

Every summer, towns all across Japan host festivals (matsuri) featuring dancers, music, food stands, games, and more. My neighborhood's summer festival was this weekend. Lots of action, noise, and smiling faces. Good times. And toys too!

SDCC Highlights: Friends

The Grass Hut Gang, host the pop culture documentary series Japanorama and fellow Microman collector, Jonathan Ross, and the Gargamel crew.
