New Releases
I will be releasing two new clear figures this weekend: a new version of Tokoji Seijin and a Gargamel Crouching Zagoran figure. Tokoji is made of bright clear pink vinyl, and Zagoran is done in half clear pink, half clear purple. Both figures are hand painted and limited. They will go on sale HERE on Saturday, May 2nd, at 8:00 PM PST (Sunday, May 3rd, at 12:00 PM Japan Time).

Super Festival
Super Festival is one of the more popular toy shows in Tokyo. Picked up a new Butanohana figure (Pochipochi from the Chibira-kun series) and a crazy character from the Captain Ultra series (Bandera). Also got this Vatundoo shirt (Thanks Vinyl Junkies!). Seems like most of the vintage dealers there bring the same stuff to every show, so it's not super exciting toy-wise. I think the best part about going is getting to hang out with all the toy geeks.

Earth Day Tokyo 2009
So what does Taro Okamoto's "The Myth of Tomorrow" painting (above) have to do with Earth Day? Not too much. I was originally planning on writing a little something on this weekend's Earth Day Tokyo 2009 ecology festival at Yoyogi Park, but it was so boring I didn't take any pictures. I expect to get information at events like this, but unfortunately it's been taken over by businesses using it to promote their "eco" products. Back to The Myth of Tomorrow. Okamoto originally did this huge mural for a hotel in Mexico City about 40 years back. When the hotel went out of business, the piece went missing. It was discovered only a few years ago, returned to Japan, restored, and is now on permanent display at Shibuya Station. Take a look next time you're there.

Vegan Ramen!
Kagetsu, a popular ramen chain, has been releasing a special vegan ramen every spring for the past couple years. This year's version is called Nana Rosso, Italian style with cabbage and onions, and topped with tomato and basil. Tasty.

Hanami
Hanami is the traditional custom of partying under the cherry blossoms. It's a time when friends, students, and colleagues get together with food and drink, music (singing, karaoke machines, guitars, etc.), big blue tarps, and lots of alcohol. Basically, it's an excuse to party hard and make lots of noise. Parties usually take place at public parks, often at night after work, and sometimes last until late at night. Police and paramedics are often on hand to deal with noise, fights, and the usual intoxication. As you can see at Inokashira Park above, they make what could have been a beautiful sight, an ugly, littered, unpleasant mess.

Ultra Cider
Beverage maker DyDo recently released Ultra Cider. For those not familiar with cider or ramune, it has a sort of Sprite or 7-Up taste, but maybe a little less sour. Though there are only 2 versions of the can in the vending machine above (Ultraman and Ultra 7), there are several versions available. Cans feature Ultra stats and photos on the back.
